The lake is is never safe. You have to determine your own risk tolerance to expose yourself and loved ones to it’s hazards. It can break at any time. Heavy wet snow and rising output flow levels mean a weakening system. No grooming today.

4 runs compacting the new snow with the Ginzu has left a firm, fresh skateable surface. Diagonal was not reset but is holding up. Don T. did the first two laps and then handed off to sedgesprite.

Sedgesprite made 4 passes with the ginzu and Trail Doctor Peter Ord cleaned up the surgery. Walking loop inside of Skating loop. Easter egg loop at the end by the cliffs. Great skiing.

Skating the lake from the Visitor Center to the West flank of the glacier, to Skaters Cabin, around the campground and back to VC. Lake conditions were variable but very skatable, especially on the rolled section near skaters. Stay away from the glacier face (new ice)...

Mendenhall Lake drilled on Jan 18th 2019 at 7 sites along nordic trail. Ice depth of 12 inches at all sites. Ice surface is rough with a trace of new snow. Conditions are Poor for skiing until more snow arrives.
