Following up on Jeff’s comment — Does anyone else feel like something needs to be done about the dog shit on the ski trails problem? It seems to be getting worse. I know people like to ski with their dogs, but why should the rest of us have to be dodging big smears of dog shit on the ski trails? It really detracts from the skiing experience and our groomers hate it too.

Volunteer groomers should not have to pick up dog shit as part of the job.

I think a big part of the problem is that even “responsible” dog owners who would normally pick up their dogs poop, don’t see when their dogs poop since they are running free and often poop behind them. I’ve seen this happen a number of times.

A leash rule would solve this problem, you can’t miss seeing your dog poop if they are leashed to you. If your dog can’t ski on a leash with you without tripping you up, either train it to ski on a leash or ski without your dog. If your dog needs some “run free” time, throw a ball for it somewhere after skiing.

Does anyone else think a leash rule for the campground and Montana Creek is a good idea? And no, “competent voice control” is not a realistic substitute for leashes, it’s not working. — Jack Kreinheder
