The road up to the Black Bear chair and the upper nordic loop will be groomed tomorrow for skate skiing. Dress warmly – it will be in the shade and windy.

I skied the Upper Loop at 2 on Friday, and it is a short 4-5 minute lap, including one good uphill by Black Bear and one fast downhill with steep turn. Track is about half smooth and half rough; EC will try to smooth it out a bit more before 10 am Saturday, and will groom it again on Sunday, but SKATE ONLY, although it is good ski touring on the skate lane. Off trail is not so good; hard crust and lumpy. Note from the lodge to the timing shack by Ptarmigan is PURE ICE– do not attempt in skate boots; better to wear hiking boots with ice crippers and then change. But Lodge cafe and coffee shop will be open, and the hiking up and down to the Upper Loop is good. Worth the trip!!
