Groomed for skating only

Skating is excellent. Coverage is still excellent. The groomers spent lots of time fixing the wet spots and either ran out of time or forgot to go over the classic tracks. Hopefully both will be groomed for Sunday.

Upper loop pretty good.

Skating is preferable as the wax for classic is touchy. Fish scales o.k., zero’s not so good. Blue klister not so good. Spring like corn snow with Off piste pretty fun with the small amount of new snow. Aw, the variability of freeze/thaw temperatures!

Upper Loop is fantastic!

What a difference a day makes. The upper loop is in fantastic condition for both skate and classic. Hike up Trickster – no problem! The snow softened just enough and the Eaglecrest groomers did an amazing job to smooth things out. Skate ski race tomorrow...

Snowing on Upper Loop

It was snowing this morning on the UL. The track and skate lane conditions are good but the snow is slow and wet, a great workout. It’s winter up there. Go get it.

UL Superb; LL has softened

Easy access up Trickster now to Upper Loop, which has 4 km of fantastic skate and classic. And Lower Loop has softened considerably with a few inches of new snow, and might be decent for ski touring or even skate ski. Please post if you check out the LL today!
Upper Loop about 4 to 4.5 km long

Upper Loop about 4 to 4.5 km long

I measured the upper loop today, trying to ski every part without doubling back on my tracks, and came up with a 4 km loop. Greg Patz did the same and he came up with 4.5 km. Either way, it’s a lovely ski and twice as long as anything that Anchorage has right...

Upper loop super! Access via Trickster.

Fabulous classic tracks, include Troy Loop which has never been better. Skating very good as well. The hike up is via Trickster now, stay left, watch for downhill traffic from above. And enjoy!

UL freshly groomed; LL frozen hard

The expanded Upper Loop was freshly groomed this morning and should be excellent packed powder for both classic and skate. Access is still skiing on left up to bottom of Sneaky, then hiking up Sneaky –just a 15 minute hike, try it! Lower Loop is packed awaiting...

Lower Loop not skiable – Upper Loop firm, but good

Ken Leghorn called from EC and asked me to post a trail update. He reports the lower loop is an icy, rutted mess and completely unskiable. The upper loop is still groomed from Monday. The skate track is firm and maybe a bit icy in spots, but skiable. The classic track...

Lower Loop

Skied lower loop. Hard surface groomed for skate only. Classic skiing pretty good in the ungroomed snow right next to the groomed trail.

Eaglecrest Upper and Lower Loops

UPPER LOOP: The upper loop is as good as it gets. Groomers added some new terrain, and much of the Troy (forest) loop is groomed, for both classic and skate. Total of about 3.5 km. The classic is very good (base wax plus blue hard wax for kick). The skating looks...

Upper Loop extended

The upper loop received a healthy amount of new snow last night and today, and Eaglecrest has started to add and extend the trail. It was buried today under all the fresh snow (note – the alpine skiing is excellent right now!), but as soon as it lets up a bit...

Immaculate Inception

Upper loop was like a dream in a dream this morning. I’m talking levels man. Get up there, now. Groomed as of 8am.

Upper Loop freshly groomed Sunday

Upper Loop should be excellent today with freshly set skate and classic. Lower Loop was attempted but still needs more snow- meanwhile it’s great for ski touring or snowshoeing. EC is posting daily Nordic grooming info by 7 am on skijuneau.com or the snow...
