Eaglecrest Board to interview four finalists for ski area’s top position
Community is invited to meet General Manager candidates
After completing a nationwide search, the Eaglecrest Board of Directors has narrowed the pool of candidates for Eaglecrest General Manager position to four finalists. They will visit Eaglecrest, participate in a Community Open House and assessment center process, and have a final interview with the Board of Directors on April 27-29.
The finalists are (in alphabetical order):
Nathaniel Abbott
Mr. Abbott is currently living in Juneau and is employed as the Director of Mountain Operations at Eaglecrest. Additionally, he has worked at Eaglecrest for the last 12 years as a Snowcat Operator, Lift Supervisor, Lift Maintenance and Operations Manager, and Mountain Maintenance Manager. Mr. Abbott was born and raised in Juneau.
Landon Fake
Mr. Fake is currently living in Hope, ME. He served as the General Manager of Camden Snow Bowl, a town-owned and operated ski area on the coast of Maine, from 2013 to 2017. Concurrent with his role as the General Manager, Mr. Fake also served as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Camden, Maine from 2013 to 2017. Prior to working for the Town of Camden, Mr. Fake held various field and leadership positions in outdoor education and leadership, including the Atlantic Region Director of Outward Bound Wilderness and the Executive Director of Mahoosuc Pathways, Inc.
Hans Hohl
Mr. Hohl is currently living in Ankeny, IA. He has worked in the ski resort industry for over 25 years as a Ski Instructor, Ski School Team Leader, Ski School Coordinator, Ski School Manager, and Mountain Manager. Mr. Hohl was the Mountain Manager at Buttermilk Ski Area in Colorado from 2002 to 2008 and was vital in coordinating the ESPN Winter X Games starting on the mountain. He was most recently employed in the ski industry as the Lift Operations Supervisor at Aspen Highlands Ski Area in Colorado.
David Scanlan
Mr. Scanlan is currently living in Greenwood, ME. He has been employed as the General Manager of Mt. Abram Ski Area in Maine since 2013. Prior to his General Manager experience, Mr. Scanlan lived in Hope, AK and owned and operated a business, Glacier Dyeworks. He co-founded Mountain Rider’s Alliance, an organization that is focused on supporting and creating community owned ski areas and served a 6-year term as the Chair of the Hope and Sunrise Land Use Advisory Planning Commission for the Kenai Peninsula Borough.
Before deciding on the four finalists, the Eaglecrest Board conducted phone interviews with 10 candidates during three board meetings. In total, 27 applied for the General Manager position.
The community is invited to meet the candidates at a Community Open House on Thursday, April 27, 2017, from 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Egan room of Centennial Hall. There will be an opportunity at the community meeting to fill out comment cards regarding individual candidates. All comment cards will be reviewed by the Eaglecrest Board of Directors.
An assessment center process will be held at City Hall on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. and on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:20 p.m. and are open to the public. There will be an opportunity at the assessment center to fill out comment cards regarding individual candidates. All comment cards will be reviewed by the Eaglecrest Board of Directors.
The Eaglecrest Board of Directors will interview candidates in executive session on the morning of Saturday April 29, 2017.
