Imagine: skiing along a groomed trail on the Mendenhall Lake shore, with bridges crossing the small creeks as well as the Mendenhall River! The JNSC’s Nordic Trails Development Sub-Committee recently met with US Forest Service (USFS) managers and they expressed thanks for developing the JNSC plan and vision for the near and distant future–not to mention our stellar volunteer grooming! The USFS is finalizing the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area (MGRA). This DEIS includes the lake shore trail, a bridge across the Mendenhall River, and a multi-use West Glacier loop trail. Look for the comment period to open in mid-February (we’ll post a link to social media when it’s available). The JNSC shared the plan to the CBJ’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) on February 1st and it was well received. Read more about this important trail plan for Juneau here!
